I’m a freelance journalist specializing in science and the environment, and a 2012 Alicia Patterson Fellow. My reporting has taken me around the globe--from Borneo to Nicaragua, Iceland to Ethiopia.
I have a graduate degree in environmental studies. I write about things like deep-ocean floating wind turbines, the genetic diversity of the world’s food supplies, and a scheme to save orangutan habitat by making the rainforest worth more intact than hacked to bits. I won a 2010 AAAS Kavli award for a story about valiant efforts to save an endangered Colorado River fish.
I’ve written for The New York Times, Mother Jones, Popular Science, Men’s Journal, Seed, OnEarth, Audubon, High Country News, Slate, Grist, and many others. I blog at the PLoS Blogs Network.
